Summary:

Named as a descriptive term for a granite in secs 33 and 34, T15N, R79W, along Elk Creek, Albany Co, WY in the Northern Rocky Mountain region. Intent to name, designation of a type, and source of geographic name not stated. Occurs in a mushroom-shaped body with two major appendages on either side. Covers about 1.5 sq mi. Has a large gneissic zone in central part. Is in sharp cross-cutting contact with gabbroic intrusions. Has gradational and conformable contact with quartzofeldspathic gneiss on east side. Table of mineralogy. Geologic map. Is one of several small to medium-size granite bodies in area of Mullen Creek mafic complex (first used). Precambrian age.
