Pumpkin Bay Formation. Is one of four regionally persistent anhydrite units identified below the Punta Gorda Anhydrite in the subsurface of the South Florida basin. Consists of anhydrite and dolomite in the lower part and cream, tan, and brown micritic limestone, occasionally oolitic, in the upper part. Thickness is 1,080 feet in type well. Overlies Bone Island Formation (new); basal contact placed at the top of a regionally persistent 200-feet-thick anhydrite bed. Underlies West Felda Shale Member of Lehigh Acres Formation (both new) of Glades Group. Age is Early Cretaceous (late Coahuilan), based on stratigraphic position.
Type section (subsurface): depth-interval 14,050 to 15,130 ft, Bass Collier Company 12-2 well P-778, in sec. 12, T. 52 S., R. 27 E., Collier Co., FL. Named from Pumpkin Bay, 3 mi south of the type well.

Pumpkin Bay Formation is the deepest and thickest unit in the offshore FL Pulley Ridge area with significant promise. Overlies Early Cretaceous Bone Island Formation; underlies Early Cretaceous Lehigh Acres Formation of Glades Group. Age is Coahuilan.
