Summary:

Named as a member of Prairie Mountain formation (new) of Jackfork group (raised in rank) of Pushmataha series (new) of Bendian period. No specific type locality designated. Consists of a widely distributed, variegated maroon and green shale belt occurring approximately 450 ft above the base of Prairie Mountain formation. Is well exposed in Prairie Hollow (source of name) in Ts1 and 2S, R12E, Atoka Co, OK in the Ouachita tectonic belt province. Thickness not given. This zone is of stratigraphic importance in surface mapping. Prairie Mountain formation overlies Wildhorse Mountain formation (new) and underlies Markham Mill formation (new), both of Jackfork group of Pushmataha series of Bendian period. Of Carboniferous age.
