Summary:

Named as basal unit (of 2) of Nome series for outcrops north of Port Clarence, Seward Peninsula, west-central AK. Occupies large area including York Mountains near western extremity of peninsula. Consists of blue and gray, slightly indurated, gray, earthy limestone; basal beds are flaggy and slightly schistose. Near contact with conformably overlying Kugruk group Port Clarence is flaggy and intensely folded. Is at least 2000 ft thick in York Mountains. Unconformably(?) overlies Kuzitrin series. Fossils (listed with localities) identified by Charles Schuchert are Early Silurian in age.

Summary:

Port Clarence Limestone, designation abandoned because unit was expanded to include rocks ranging in age from late Precambrian through Mississippian. In this report, each limestone unit is [informally] referred only to system represented. Nome Group is restricted to rocks of Precambrian age and consists of schist and metamorphosed gabbroic rocks excluding marble and limestone of Paleozoic and latest Precambrian age.
