Summary:

Named the Poor Valley Ridge member of the Clinch sandstone in southwestern VA and northeastern TN for Poor Valley Ridge, Lee Co., VA. Consists of fine- to medium-grained, buff to greenish-white sandstone in beds a few inches to two feet thick, with partings and interbeds of green shale. Sandstone most massive in lower part; shale most abundant in upper part. Thickness is 183 feet. Overlies Hagan member of Clinch sandstone and underlies Clinton shale. The Poor Valley Ridge is of Early Silurian age.
