Named [informally] for Pinnacle Peak 0.5 mi southeast of Carefree basin. Type area [not stated, but assumed to be] eastern part of study area. Found on gently south-west sloping pre-Pleistocene pediment, which cuts Proterozoic [Y] (1400 Ma) Camelback Granite (Kenny, 1986). Large and small exposures abundant in gullies and washes. Consists of tan, unconsolidated, stratified, decomposed granite fragments from local sources, termed "veneer". Contains angular to subangular clasts, up to 12 in. in diameter, of granite, meta-argillite, rhyolite, and basalt. Thickness varies up to 40 feet. Not mapped as separate unit because of "variable thickness" [meaning discontinuous?]. [Compare with glacis d' erosion surfaces, Pleistocene Schoolhouse Glacis Alluvium (new) and Pleistocene Desert Mountain Glacis Alluvium (new)]. Age is Pleistocene. Report includes geologic map and cross section [see in situ weathered Camelback Granite].
