Applied in earlier reports to a Cambrian quartzite "younger" than the Ophir shale. The cliff-forming quartzitic sandstone, above the brown to gray micaceous shale of the upper part of the Uinta Mountain group and beneath the thin brown, micaceous shale and quartzite of the Ophir, is assigned to the Tintic quartzite. Since the sandstone is "older" than the Ophir and assigned to the Tintic, the name Pine Valley is considered superfluous.
