Summary:

Pilot Mountain gneiss of McConnell and others (1986) is described as biotite augen gneiss underlying the town of Pilot Mountain. It is composed of medium-grained muscovite-biotite-quartz-feldspar gneiss with minor amounts of garnet, calcite and epidote. Unit has been isotopically dated at 1173+/-33 Ma (Rb-Sr whole-rock) by naming authors and is interpreted as Middle Proterozoic basement.
