Summary:

Named as middle member of Nesson Formation. Type section is interval 6,610 to 6,650 ft in Deep Rock Oil Corp. No. 1 Picard well, center NW1/4 NE1/4 sec 6, T29N, R52E, Roosevelt Co, MT in Williston basin. Shale unit that conformably overlies Poe evaporite member (new) and underlies Kline member (new). In type section, consists of 40 ft of dark-red shale which is slightly silty in part and contains masses or thin interbeds of white, earthy gypsum in lower half of unit. Thins laterally towards margins of Williston basin. Member has no known surface exposures and is believed to be confined to the subsurface of the Williston basin, pinching out by non-deposition on the flanks of the basin. Assigned to the Early? or Middle Jurassic.
