Summary:

Is widespread in Perris block, Elsinore and parts of Corona quads, Riverside Co, CA. Extends from Mockingbird Canyon on west through Box Springs Mountains on northeast and as far south as Goodhope Mine, Perris and Lakeview Mountains. Quartz diorite is gray, moderately coarse and has prominent content of biotite; schlieren are common. Intrudes Elsinore metamorphic (series) (new). Intruded by Cajalco quartz monzonite (new). Geologic map of portion of Perris block shows unit underlies Quaternary alluvium. Age shown as Late Jurassic(?).

Summary:

In footnote author says Val Verde tonalite is same as Perris quartz diorite of Dudley [1935]. Author uses name Val Verde tonalite.

Miller, W.J., 1946, Crystalline rocks of southern California: Geological Society of America Bulletin, v. 57, no. 5, p. 457-542.

Summary:

Perris quartz diorite extends from south of Riverside to Perris. Is massive to moderately gneissoid with some irregularly distributed basic inclusions or schlieren arranged roughly parallel to the foliation. Chemical analysis for sample collected at Box Springs grade, 3.5 mi east-southeast of Riverside is in table. Members of plutonic series in Perris Block in approximate order of age are: Gavilan Peak gabbro, Virginia quartz norite, Perris and Estelle quartz diorite and Val Verde tonalite, Lakeview quartz diorite, Steele Valley granodiorite, Cajalco quartz monzonite, and La Posta quartz diorite. Age is late Mesozoic.

Summary:

Hurlbut's (1935) Bonsall tonalite is used rather than Perris quartz diorite of Dudley (1935) or Val Verde tonalite of Osborn (1939). Hurlbut's name has slight priority, his description is more complete and his name accepted here for Elsinore and San Luis Rey 30' quads. Age of Bonsall tonalite is Cretaceous.
