Pelier schist of Evington group first used. Type locality is railroad cuts at Six Mile Bridge. 0.5 mi northwest of Mt. Pelier Church, 4.5 mi east of Lynchburg, Lynchburg quad, Campbell Co., south-central VA. Consists of tan sericite-quartz schist. Contains thin quartzite and characteristic biotite porphyroblasts. Chloritoid facies is common. Thickness is 400 ft. Underlies Mount Athos formation (new), overlies Arch Marble (new), both of Evington group. Age is Paleozoic(?).
