Summary:

Unit is named the Pelican Island Bed (lowermost of five) of the Pyramid Lake Member (new) of the Mount Mazama Formation. Consists of very fine-grained, ashy parting and is more potassium-rich than the Timber Lake Bed (new), the next higher bed in the Pyramid Lake Member. Interfingers with the lower member of the Sehoo Formation. Overlies the Marble Bluff Bed (new) and underlies the Carson Sink Bed (new) of the Mono Basin Formation (new). Age is Pleistocene, 35-11.5 ka. (B1565)
