Summary:

Named for exposures along and W of Palisade Crest, part of Sierra divide W of Big Pine. Type area is E escarpment of Sierra Nevada S of Big Pine Creek to Red Mountain Creek [approx 37 deg 04'N, 118 deg 29'W, Inyo Co, CA]. Within map area crops out in about 150 sq km and comprises (older to younger) Tinemaha Granodiorite and granodiorite of McMurry Meadows. Also may include leucogranite of Red Mountain and Taboose Creeks. Inconsolable Quartz Monzodiorite (formerly Inconsolable Granodiorite of Bateman, 1968) originally included in suite by Bateman and Dodge (1970) is no longer included because isotopic dating shows Inconsolable Granodiorite to be Cretaceous. Age of suite is Middle Jurassic based on age of included units.
