Summary:

Name given to rocks formerly called Neocene rhyolite and Tertiary rhyolite. Is part of a very extensive acidic lava series beneath the Snake River downwarp in ID. Extends as scattered remnants into regions bordering the downwarp in UT, NV, MT, and WY. Occurs as a ragged fringe bordering Snake River basalt. Interbedded and underlain by continental deposits of Salt Lake formation. The lava series includes flows of basalt and andesite, trachytes, latites, and rhyolite. Geologic map; rhyolite mapped at southwest edge designated a Pliocene? rhyolite south of the Snake River, Owyhee Co., ID, T1 and 2N, Rs 3, 4, and 5E, in the Snake River basin. Term "Owyhee rhyolite" not shown on map. Has a measured thickness is more than 1,850 ft. Overlies Payette lake beds at some places. No type locality designated.
