Summary:

Olive Hill formation named in Hardin Co., west-central TN. Unconformably underlies Birdsong shale and unconformably overlies Rockhouse shale, all included in Helderbergian or Linden group. Divided into (ascending) Ross limestone member, Bear Branch member and Flat Gap member. Outcrops in Hardin Co., TN, and adjacent portions of MS and AL. Thickness over 150 ft on Indian Creek at Olive Hill. Fauna is early New Scotland or late Coeymans. Age is Early Devonian (Helderbergian).

Pg. 280-281, fig. 2. Olive Hill formation. In this report [pre-Chattanooga stratigraphy of central Tennessee], Dunbar's 1919 (Tennessee Div. Geol. Bull., no. 21) classification of Lower Devonian is modified. Units formerly included in Olive Hill are reclassified, and term Olive Hill is considered unnecessary.
