Summary:

Named for exposures near railroad station and town of Okesa, sec 21, T26N, R11E, Osage Co, OK on the Chautauqua platform. No type locality designated. Forms a prominent bench 1/2 mi southeast. Occurs 65-115 ft below the Buck Point sandstone (first used). Overlies unnamed shale. Underlies unnamed shale. Is a 20-30 ft thick sandstone [not described]. Is usually only one bed with numerous pelecypods and a few brachiopods at many localities. May also form a massive lower edge or bench whose upper surface contains fossils (pelecypods, brachiopods) that is separated from an upper bench by shale. A thin nodular limestone crops out at many places above the lower bench. The upper bench 10-13 ft above the lower bench is thinner than the lower bench [whose thickness was not stated]. Stratigraphic sections. Belongs to the middle Pennsylvanian. Top of Okesa shown on geologic map.
