Summary:

Unit is named the Nun Mine Member of the Gabbs Formation (revised) of the Volcano Peak Group (new). Replaces the lower member of the Gabbs Formation of Muller and Ferguson (1939, GSA Bull., v. 50, no. 10, p. 1573-1624). Exposed in the Gabbs Valley Range in west-central NV. Consists of dark-gray to black, grayish-purple weathering, thin-bedded, calcareous mudstone intercalated with thin to thick beds of black limestone. Conformably overlies the Luning Formation; sharply and conformably underlies the Mount Hyatt Member (new) of the Gabbs Formation. Thickness is 90 m. Age is Late Triassic (Norian), based on fossils.
Type locality: exposures near Luning Draw, Gabbs Valley Range, Mineral Co., NV. Named from the Nun mine near Five Card Draw.
