Summary:

Named for exposures in vicinity of Novi Mountain. Composite type section designated on east and west flanks of Novi Mountain, secs.29, 30 and 32 T17S R28E, Medfra D-1 quad, west-central AK. Extends southwestward for about 25 km; also present 50 km southwest of Novi Mountain and in area south of Browns Fork and east of White Mountain Creek. Consists of thick cyclically interbedded sequence of thin-bedded silty to micritic limestone and calcareous siltstone. Is nearly 900 m thick. Overlies lower Paleozoic or Precambrian calc-schist unit. Gradationally underlies Telsitna Formation (new). Age is Early Ordovician based on sparse conodonts identified by J.E. Repetski (written commun., 1977-80). List included in report.
