Summary:
Name Norwood Cove Member of Raccoon Mountain Formation of Gizzard Group here formally proposed for unit exposed on west side of Sand Mountain in Jackson Co., AL. Extends into GA and TN. Consists of dark gray shale with siderite nodules, siltstone, and sandstone. Thin-bedded siltstones contain ripple marks. Thickness is 32 m. Overlies Pennington Formation and unconformably underlies Flat Rock Member of Raccoon Mountain. Age is Early Pennsylvanian.
