Formation includes (ascending) Krider limestone, Paddock shale, and Herington limestone member. Underlies Wellington shale; overlies Odell shale. Age is Permian (Wolfcamp series).
Named from Nolans, a railway siding near Emmons, Washington Co., northwestern KS.
