Summary:

Named the Neal Sandstone Member of the Hinton Formation in southwestern VA and southeastern WV for Neal Hollow, Tazewell Co., VA. Consists of gray, fine-grained, thin- and partly ripple-bedded sandstone interbedded with shale. Thickness is 16 meters. Overlies Little Stone Gap Member and underlies middle shale member of Hinton Formation. The Neal is of Late Mississippian age.
