Summary:

The Nacoochee Formation of the Helen Group, informally named by Gillon (1982), is here named in the Helen thrust sheet in GA and NC. It consists of an interlayered sequence of amphibolite and graphitic-aluminous schist with minor micaceous metasandstone, feldspathic metasiltstone, epidote quartzite, and biotite schist. Grades into the Horton Formation of the Helen Group to the west and is truncated on the southeast by the Dahlonega fault. Age is tentatively Late Proterozoic to early Paleozoic.
