Summary:

Is basal group (of 4) of Pennsylvanian rocks of eastern OK which was named by Gould, Ohern, and Hutchison (1910). Is seen on the Chautauqua platform. Revised in that Vinita formation is newly named as the only formation in the group. Muskogee consists of chiefly shales and sandstones. Unconformably overlies either the Boone chert, the Pitkin limestone or its equivalent. Underlies the Tulsa group. Stratigraphic chart.
