Murder Creek Bed, introduced by Kloc (1983), lies above the Fargo Bed (also of Kloc, 1983). Unit is described as a widely traceable prominent diagenetic carbonate bed containing abundant trilobites. Brachiopods also abundant. Both beds and several others lie within the Darien Center Submember of the Wanakah Shale Member of the Ludlowville Formation in western NY. Above the Murder Creek is the Bidwell Bed, uppermost bed of the Darrien Center. Age of the Wanakah is Middle Devonian.
