Named for characteristic development on Mount Kelly, sec.21 T11S R50W [DeLong Mountains 1:250,000 quad] DeLong Mountains, western Brooks Range, northern AK, designated its type locality. Is part of Fortress Mountain Formation. Rocks previously included in Fortress Mountain Formation (Chapman and Sable, 1960). Characterized by its distinctive calcareous, micaceous graywacke. No sections have been measured; however, it may be as much as several hundred m in thickness. Base of tongue seems to be unconformity. Age is Aptian and Albian (late Early Cretaceous) based on flora collected near center of unit at locality south of Poko Mountain.
