Summary:

Named for Mokapu Peninsula [Mokapu 7.5' quad, Island of Oahu, HI] for 2 small outcrops midway between Ulupau Crater and Puu Hawaiiloa. Included as unit in lower part of Honolulu volcanic series. Composed of nephelite basalt containing phenocrysts of pyroxene and olivine. Underlies with erosional unconformity limestone. Tentatively assigned to Kaena stand of sea based on erosion and age of Puu Hawaiiloa. Assigned middle(?) and late Pleistocene age.

Summary:

Mokapu basalt (Stearns, IN Stearns and Vaksvik, 1935) was found to be 2 distinct flows, N outcrop composed of nepheline basalt without melilite and S outcrop composed of nepheline-melilite basalt. S one is considered Mokolea basalt. N one is considered part of Ulupau tuff. Assigned to Kahipa stand of sea based on relationship to Puu Hawaiiloa.
