Summary:

Named for exposures on north bank of Yukon River from 8 to 20 mi below Melozi telegraph station, lower Yukon and Norton Bay districts, west-central AK. Consists of freshwater shale and sandstone at least 1000 and possibly several 1000 ft thick. Contains fossil plants and freshwater invertebrates. Conformably overlies Ungalik conglomerate. Conformably underlies Nulato formation. Age is Late Cretaceous based on fossils. [List of fossils identified by several paleontologists included in report.]

Summary:

Correlation chart shows Melozi formation in Shaktolik group in Nulato-Norton Bay and lower Yukon area. Age shown as Early Cretaceous (Albian) based on [reexamination] of fossils from unit.

Summary:

[Melozi Formation is removed from Shaktolik Group due to abandonment of name Shaktolik.] "Evidence (Patton and Bickel, 1956; Bell, 1963, p.10) suggests [Melozi] is marginal facies of Kaltag Formation" which is considered Early and Late Cretaceous in age.
