Summary:

Pg. 865-922; 1930 [abs.], GSA Bull., v. 41, p. 91-92. McGee stage. Oldest glacial stage on east slope of Sierra Nevada. Represented by several thick patches of a deposit strongly resembling till and consisting largely of granite debris resting on Paleozoic limestone and marble. Correlated with Nebraskan stage. Age is Pleistocene.
Best exposed on high ridge west of McGee Peak, Mount Morrison quadrangle, Sierra Nevada, central CA [considered type locality by Putnam, 1949].

Summary:

Pg. 1289. McGee glacial stage; McGee till. Aeolian Buttes till (new) may be equivalent in age to McGee glacial stage but the Aeolian Buttes can be dated with respect to local volcanic and glacial events; McGee at its type locality 25 miles southeast cannot; therefore new name is proposed. Age is Pleistocene.

Summary:

Pg. 233. McGee glacial stage; McGee till. Name Aeolian Buttes till considered invalid as representing an earlier Pleistocene, pre-Sherwin stage. Hence, glacial sequence on eastern slope of Sierra Nevada is McGee, Sherwin, Tahoe, and Tioga.
[GNC remark (ca. 1966, US geologic names lexicon, USGS Bull. 1200, p. 3809): Name amended to McGee Glaciation in compliance with 1961 Code of Stratigraphic Nomenclature. Adopted by the USGS.]
