Named for occurrence at Maunawili Ranch, 2 mi W of Waimanalo, along Makawao Stream [Koko Head 7.5' quad] Island of Oahu. Included as unit in middle part of Honolulu volcanic series. Consists of deeply weathered cone and flow about 100 ft thick of nepheline basalt. Unconformably overlies Koolau volcanic series. Tentatively assigned to Waipio stand of sea based on weathering, "though it may have erupted at any time during the recession of the sea from the Kaena to the Waipio level." Assigned middle(?) and late Pleistocene age.
