Summary:

Pg. 714. Matfield shales. Variously colored shale with some shaly, buff, occassionally cherty limestones and a light-gray limestone, 2 feet or more thick, about 30 feet below top. Thickness of formation 0 to 70 feet. Overlies Wreford limestone and underlies Florence flint. Included in Chase stage. Age is Permian.
Named from development in Matfield Twp., Chase Co., eastern KS.
[Adopted by the USGS as Matfield shale of Chase group. Recognized in eastern Kansas, central northern Oklahoma, and southeastern Nebraska.]

Summary:

Matfield formation of Chase group. Includes (descending) Blue Springs shale, Kinney limestone, and Wymore shale members. Occurs below Barneston formation and above Wreford [limestone], both of Chase group. Age is Permian (Big Blue).
