The informal Martinsville igneous complex of Ragland (1974) includes the Leatherwood Granite of Jonas (1928) along the VA-NC border and the Rich Acres Formation of Conley and Toewe (1968) in VA. The Rich Acres Formation consists of metadiorite and metagabbro that have relict igneous textures and occur as concordant to semiconcordant masses. The Leatherwood Granite is typically a porphyritic muscovite-biotite granite showing rapakivi texture. Leatherwood has been isotopically dated as Middle to Late Ordovician.
