Summary:

The Mamey Lava Member of the Camarones Sandstone, here named was originally mapped by Kaye (1959) as intrusive andesite porphyry, but recent mapping shows it to be extrusive. Consists of dark-gray basalt with plagioclase phenocrysts. Was deposited conformably when enclosing rock was in a plastic state. Maximum thickness is 350 m. Age is Late Cretaceous, no older than Cenomanian.
