Summary:

First published use in Ward Co, ND in Williston basin. Intent to name not stated. Probably named for village of Makoti, southwestern Ward Co, ND. No type locality designated. Well developed 4 1/2 mi south of Makoti where it blocks Hiddenwood Lake valley. Distal margin extends northwest-southeast for 10 mi. Moraine continues southeastward into McClean Co, becoming indistinct near Blue Mountain end moraine. Consists of gravelly and sandy clay till similar to Blue Mountain drift sheet (new) but with more boulders and pebbles and less sand and lignite chips. End moraine consists of isolated ridge-like masses with larger ones averaging 1 mi in width. Maximum relief is about 40 ft. Ground moraine has low relief. Thickness ranges from 25 to 71 ft. Radiocarbon dating of two wood samples from moraines correlative to Makoti were dated at 10,330 +/-300 years B.P. and 10,350 +/-300 years B.P. Drift is younger than Blue Mountain drift sheet.
