Summary:

Named for exposures at type locality along Lubbe Creek, westward-flowing tributary of McCarthy Creek, McCarthy C-5 quad, southern AK. Described in report by MacKevett and Imlay (1962) and distribution shown on map of quad by MacKevett (1963). Also recognized in McCarthy C-4 and C-6 quads. Consists of impure spiculite and minor amounts of coquina and chert lenses. Rocks are medium gray weathering to medium brown. Is about 300 ft thick. Conformably overlies McCarthy Formation; disconformably underlies Nizina Mountain or Root Glacier Formations (both new). Age is late Early Jurassic (Pliensbachian and Toarcian) on basis of fossils identified by Prof. S.W. Muller (oral commun., 1964) and R.W. Imlay (written commun., 1963).
