Summary:

[Derivation of name and type locality not given]. Crops out throughout study area (Warner Mountains), Modoc Co, CA. Referred to in rock hound maps as locality of petrified forest. Is equivalent to upper portion of sedimentary rocks of Oligocene age of Duffield and others' (1976) and upper members of Russell's (1928) Cedarville Series. Unit is characterized by chaos and volcanic mudflow breccia, locally containing logs several ft in diameter and 10 ft in length. Stratigraphic chart shows unit overlies Deep Creek Formation and underlies [†/]Squaw Peak Formation. [†/Squaw Peak Formation considered an invalid name; rocks now included in the informal Cedar Pass complex of Colgan and others, 2011 (Geosphere, v. 7, no. 3, p. 733–755) and Egger and Miller, 2011 (same vol., p. 756-773).] Is in contact with basalts of Soldier Creek. Age of units in study area given as Tertiary.
