Summary:

Named for mountain range in northwestern Socorro Co, NM, Southern Rocky Mountain region. No type locality designated. Forms steep western escarpment for 7 mi along central and southern parts of Los Pinos Mountains. Is a pink, medium- to coarse-grained granite composed of microcline, orthoclase, albite, and quartz with biotite, magnetite, muscovite, apatite, garnet, and zircon as accessory minerals. Intrudes older pre-Cambrian units and in part, or wholly, assimilated or replaced them. Overlies and intrudes pre-Cambrian Sevilleta schist (new). Unconformably underlies Derry series (Pennsylvanian). Geologic map. Structure cross sections. Pre-Cambrian age [presumably based on regional geology and stratigraphic position].
