Summary:

Lava flows of Pre-Waihu and of post-Pohakuloa are named "Liloe Formation" (oldest formation of Laupahoehoe Group, Mauna Kea Volcano, Island of Hawaii). [no type designated] Exposed in upper end of Waikahalulu Gulch where tephra and dikes of Liloe overlie Pohakuloa Formation. Unit underlies Waihu Formation. Assigned Pleistocene age.

Summary:

K-Ar ages for samples give 188,000 +/-15,000 to 177,000 +/-20,000 yr B.P. [considered] "anomalous dates constituting minimum ages".

Summary:

Named "Liloe Formation" is here abandoned and formally applied to chronostratigraphic unit --"Liloen stage". Volcanic rocks are now assigned to Waikahalulu Formation of Laupahoehoe Group. K-Ar ages indicate 122,400 +/-7300 to 94,500 +/-6100 yr B.P.
