Summary:

Named Lee Ranch tongue of Abo sandstone for exposures about 7 mi southwest of O. M. Lee Ranch headquarters. Type locality designated in SE1/4 sec 11, T20S, R11E, Otero Co, NM in Orogrande basin. Consists of salmon-red shale and siltstone, and soft weathering, fine-grained sandstone that are 106 ft thick at type. To north reddish-brown, very thin-bedded, cross-laminated, very fine-grained sandstone and siltstone predominate. Rests conformably on and intertongues with Hueco limestone. Conformably overlain by Yeso formation. Is of early Leonard or Early Permian age (flora). Unable to trace south of Culp Canyon (secs 8, 17, 21, 22, T20S, R11E). Is thought to be equivalent to the Deer Mountain red shale member of the type Hueco limestone.
