Named for Leatherwood, Henry Co., central southern VA. Consists of biotite muscovite granite with porphyritic facies. Intrusive into Glenarm series. Age is Precambrian.

Leatherwood Granite has U-Pb zircon age of 516 Ma (Sinha and others, 1989) which makes it Late Cambrian.
