Named for Laniloa Point, Oahu, at seaward tip of large lithified dune at Laie. Is lithified cemented sand dune about 14 m thick. Age given as Pleistocene (Wisconsin).

Youngest lithified dunes on Oahu belong to Laniloa Formation. Dunes apparently accumulated during Mamala low stand of the sea which ended about 12,000 years ago. Radiometric determination on land snails collected at Makai Range Pier from Laniloa Formation yielded 23,220 +/-1200 yr B.P. Table gives age as late stadial of Wisconsin.
