The Lanier Mountain Quartzite Member is here named the upper member of the Snellville Formation in the Newnan-Tucker synform near Atlanta, GA. It consists of quartzite composed of quartz, through muscovitic quartzite, to garnetiferous, sillimanitic, muscovitic quartzite. Overlies the Norris Lake Schist Member and is probably younger than the Atlanta Group. Maximum age is 1,100 Ma from zircons. Age is Late Proterozoic and (or) early Paleozoic.

The Lanier Mountain Quartzite Member of the Snellville Formation of Higgins and Atkins (1981) is here abandoned, because it is shown to be part of the Chattahoochee Palisades Quartzite of the Sandy Springs Group.
