Named for its characteristic outcrops about Lake Wolford [later spelled "Lake Wohlford"] in western part of Ramona 30' quad. [Name "Lake Wolford granodiorite" first used by Larsen and Keevil (1947) in study of batholiths in southern CA]. Also occurs in San Luis Rey 30' quad where it underlies an area of about 45 sq mi. Described as fine-grained light-colored rock with average composition of leucogranodiorite. Lake Wolford leucogranodiorite is clearly younger than San Marcos gabbro. Believed to be older than Woodson Mountain granodiorite (new). Map legend shows age of "Lake Wolford granodiorite" as Cretaceous.
