Summary:

Named as a member (1 of 6) of Thirsty Canyon Tuff (new) for exposures in Labyrinth Canyon, Nye Co, NV in the Great Basin province. The type locality is in the headward part of Labyrinth Canyon, lat 37 deg 17' N, long 116 deg 41' W. Crops out west, north, and east of Black Mountain. Distribution map. Maximum thickness is 50 ft at type. Composed of slightly to moderately welded light-gray to brown vitric ash-flow tuff containing about 20 percent white pumice fragments at base overlain by pink to gray devitrified tuff. Overlies Gold Flat Member (new) of Thirsty Canyon. Underlies upper member of Thirsty Canyon. Pliocene age.

Labyrinth Canyon Member of Thirsty Canyon Tuff. Sample from Thirsty Canyon area, east of Black Mountain, Lat. 37 deg. 18 min. N., Long. 116 deg. 35 min. W., Nye County, Nevada. K-Ar age on sanidine 6.2 +/-0.2 Ma. [Age is Miocene based on time scale of Berggren (1972, Lethaia, v. 5, no. 2, p. 195-215).]
