Jewett, J.M., 1941, Classification of the Marmaton group, Pennsylvanian, in Kansas: Kansas Geological Survey Bulletin, no. 38, pt. 11, p. 285-344.

Summary:

Named as uppermost member (of 4) of Pawnee limestone of Marmaton group in southeastern KS; named from Laberdie Creek. Type exposure designated in a quarry in southwestern part of sec 6, T23S, R25E, 1 mi west of Prescott, Linn Co, KS in the Forest City basin where the member is 6 ft thick. At another measured section in N1/2 S1/2 sec 7, T27S, R24E, Bourbon Co, KS in the Cherokee basin, member is 1.5 ft thick. Can be seen in KS, north of the Marmaton river; in MO (Chautauqua platform); and west of Verdigris river, about 4 mi east of Nowata, OK. In KS, north of Marmaton river, Bourbon Co, KS (Cherokee basin), is distinctly separated from lower part of Pawnee limestone by several ft of shale; limestone is somewhat thin-bedded, light gray, and crystalline, and locally contains CHAETETES. In southern Linn Co, is asphaltic. South of Marmaton river, makes dip slopes and has been eroded into picturesque cliffs. Thickness increases southward and ranges from about 8 to 30 ft. Overlies Mine Creek shale member (new) of Pawnee limestone of Marmaton group; underlies Bandera shale of Marmaton. Cross section. Of Pennsylvanian, Des Moines age.
