Named after Kobeh Valley north and east of Lone Mountain [39 deg 40'00"N 116 deg 14'12"W]. Type section is on main southwest ridge leading from peak of Lone Mountain [Bartine Ranch 15' quad, Eureka Co, NV]. Is lowest member of three of McColley Canyon Formation. Mapped in Sulphur Springs Range, Roberts Mtns, Lone Mountain and Table Mountain. Consists of well-bedded, very fine-grained, silty fossiliferous, cherty, calcitic dolomite. Lower part weathers to brownish gray or light gray. Some beds contain finely disseminated grains of illite and clusters of orange to yellow opaque mineral, probably an iron oxide. Is approx 180 ft thick at Lone Mtn. Conformably underlies Bartine member (new) of McColley Canyon Formation; overlies with apparent conformity Lone Mountain Dolomite. Contains Acrospirifer Kobehana and Trematospira fauna. Is Early Devonian age.

Included as lowermost of 3 members of McColley Canyon Formation. Overlies Lone Mountain Dolomite; underlies Bartine Member of McColley Canyon Formation. No ostracodes have been obtained from Kobeh Member. Johnson (1970) dated the Acrospirifer kobehana Zone as early Emsian [Early Devonian] in age.
