Named for Kittitas Valley, upper Yakima River drainage basin, Kittitas Co, WA. Divided into (ascending): Swauk Prairie Member (new) and Indian John Member (new). Type locality designated for each member. [Name Kittitas Drift first used by Porter (1971, 1975).] Composed of till and gravel moraines and dissected outwash fills mantled by loess. Overlies Thorp Drift (new); underlies Lakedale Drift (new). Is Pleistocene age.

Swauk Prairie and overlying Indian John Members of Kittitas Drift of Porter (1975, 1976) are reinterpreted to be phases of accumulations during single glaciation. Kittitas Drift apparently represents penultimate full glaciation of marine isotope record 0.14 to 0.13 Ma (Emiliani and Shackleton, 1974; Hays and others, 1976)
