Summary:

"Marine platform skirting the dome [of Paniau volcanic series on Island of Niihau, HI] is partly submerged and partly above sea level --these volcanics are called Kiekie volcanic series." Includes Lehua island and Kawaihoa cone. Assigned Pleistocene age.

Summary:

Named for Kiekie. Type locality: at Kiekie [21 deg 53' 11"N, 160 deg 12' 46"W, Niihau quad] on coastal plain of Island of Niihau, HI. Consists chiefly of massive flows of olivine basalt of pahoehoe type and gray-to-brown well-bedded vitric-lithic basaltic tuff. Above sea level is as thick as 290 ft. Also includes Lehua Island which is 702 ft high and is composed of subaerially-deposited tuff. Overlies with erosional unconformity Paniau volcanic series. Underlies sedimentary rocks of Recent age. Assigned to early(?) and middle Pleistocene age based on relationship to shore lines, but map plate shows age to be Pleistocene.

Summary:

Kiekie Volcanic Series (Stearns, 1947) reduced in rank and renamed Kiekie Basalt to reflect alkalic basalt lithology. Unpublished K-Ar ages (G.B. Dalrymple, oral commun., 1986) indicate Pliocene and Pleistocene age.
