Named for Katakturuk River, Sadlerochit Mountains. Composite type section exposed in sec.7 T2N R26E, secs.1 and 10 T2N R25E, central part of Shublik Mountains, Mount Michelson quad, northern AK. Occurs in Shublik and Sadlerochit Mountains and also at Kikiktat Mountain and along Old Man Creek. Except for 250 ft of shaly, dolomitic silty beds near its base, unit is completely dolomite. Informally divided into 9 lithologic units. Thickness is more than 3400 ft. Overlies unnamed dolomite; disconformably(?) underlies Nanook Limestone (new). Age given as Middle Devonian or older based on stratigraphic relations.

Age is Proterozoic on basis of unit's stratigraphic relation with overlying Nanook Limestone (now regarded as Late Proterozoic or Early Cambrian to Early and(or) Middle Devonian age).
