Joshua schist named as part of Evington group (new). Probably named for Joshua Creek, 6.5 mi east of Lynchburg, Lynchburg quad, Campbell Co., south-central VA. Consists of blue-gray phyllite and fine-grained schists. Biotite porphyroblasts common. Calcareous in part. Thickness from a fraction of a foot to 500 ft. Overlies Candler formation (new), underlies Arch marble (new), both of Evington group. Age is Paleozoic(?).
