Summary:

Name applied to the Paleocene part of the North Horn formation. Is exposed on the high mountain slopes adjacent to Joes Valley. Occurs also on North Horn Mountain and in Dragon Canyon. These localities are in western Emery Co, UT in the Paradox basin. No type locality designated. Underlain by unnamed part of North Horn. Overlain by Flagstaff limestone. Lower contact placed at base of a "highly colored" clay and sandy clay, and locally some black carbonaceous shale that rest on massive sandstone beds of the North Horn. Upper contact placed at change from buff sandstone and sandy clay with limestone of Flagstaff. Thickness not measured. Geologic map; North Horn not divided into separately mapped units. Includes variegated clays and conspicuous white channel sand. [Lithologic sequence within member not given.] Paleocene fossil mammal teeth described from W1/2 sec 7, T19S, R6E. [The definition and description of the North Horn formation was not published until 1946.]
